Buyer Beware!!! Doberman Puppy buyers beware, Doberman Rescuers beware, Adult Doberman Pinscher buyers beware! Anyone looking for a Doberman to add to their lives beware!!! In this information age, there is an information overload available to anyone willing to go after it. Once you have gathered the millions of bits of information it is up to you to sort through it, verify it and form your own opinions and beliefs. On the internet anyone can be made to look good whether they are or not, and anyone can be made to look bad whether they are or not. Regardless of whether you are planning on getting your next Doberman from FamilyDobes or elsewhere, you should do the research you can, and just as so many good references suggest, meet the breeder and the dogs personally. We understand that in today's world it may not be possible for you to make a personal visit to our kennel, though the invitation is open. If you are not available to come meet us personally, visit our References page, or contact us to see if there is a FamilyDobes family in your area you could meet. You could ask them about their experience with us, meet their family Dobe, and form an educated opinion. Many of our FamilyDobes families have met us personally and they would have valuable first hand information to share with you. Many of them have trained with us in Local clubs, and many have been long time friends and would have valuable information to share with you in your research. Here at FamilyDobes we want all of our clients to feel like our dogs are the best they could have gotten, and we want them to feel we really are there to support them and their Doberman every step of the way. Whatever you do decide to do, don't ever settle for what you didn't want, and don't support us or any other entity you don't feel comfortable with. Don't get ripped off, defrauded or otherwise become dissatisfied with your new Doberman in your life. Do what it takes to make sure you are a good fit for a Doberman, and then follow through with all it takes to make your Doberman great. Here at Family Dobes we have always said that Great Dobermans are produced by good breeders but they are developed by dedicated owners. Do your part to Socialize and train your puppy properly, give them good medical care and nutrition and look forward to creating many wonderful memories with your new Doberman. Here at FamilyDobes we are happy to admit that we are not perfect, and happy to discuss mistakes we may have made and what we learned from it. I am most afraid of those who claim they have never done wrong, or never produced an inferior puppy. I am more interested in what may have happened, what was done to remedy the situation, what was learned from it and how to prevent something like that from happening again. A Very painful example from our program involved my very first litter of Doberman puppies many years ago, without a mentor and friend in the Doberman World. I produced a litter that had some kidney problems and not only the puppies suffer, but the homes they were in who had grown very attached to them likewise suffered a great deal. I was heartbroken, I had made a mistake that hurt many people. We learned to be more concerned with longevity and pedigrees before moving forward. Our Move to European dogs was the biggest step forward in our program, but also came with a horrible experience. We had imported and bred a very nice European Bitch from a highly known kennel, placed the puppies and then placed the bitch because she was not a good fit in our pack. She could not get along with our other females who we felt were of higher quality and temperament. The people we placed her with, bred her to an unknown European Male of lines we don't particularly care for, but the owners of her first litter were so happy with their puppies we agreed to buy the litter from the people we placed the bitch with. We found good homes for those puppies with devastating results. The male that had been used died shortly after from neurological problems, and about that time many of the puppies began having health or character problems as well. Nearly that whole litter had to be Euthanized or died before age 1. Obviously again many families were affected, and since we felt personally responsible, we refunded or replaced every one of those puppies with healthy puppies from our own program. I learned when I select a particular pairing, I am responsible for the outcome. If I want that outcome to be positive, I need to do everything I can pick good pairings. Animals Husbandry is a science at it's base, a good understanding of genetics helps us there. Husbandry is also an art, that is partly intuitive, and partly learned just as with any art form. We make our best decisions based on the information and intuition we have, and move forward. We evaluate the result and add that to the information stack. I am still heartbroken over those two litters specifically, and anytime we fail to help someone be happy with their new Doberman for whatever the reason. At FamilyDobes we are mature enough and Experienced enough to know we can't keep all people happy all of the time, however that doesn't stop us from trying. It is our responsibility and we take that responsibility seriously. Just as our Puppy contract points out, I can not Guarantee that someone will not have health or temperament problems with their dog. I can do my part to minimize the chances of that through good breeding and selection. The owners can minimize that risk through proper training and socialization. What we can do however is guarantee that we will try to make it right if something goes wrong. Speaking with people of the FamilyDobes Doberman family, you will find that to be true. We help via email and phone calls long after the Doberman leaves our care, and we even help with training when people are able to come back. The most fortunate ones are the ones who are close enough to join our training clubs and train with us for the long haul. Here at FamilyDobes we Guarantee we are going to do our best to produce the best Dobermans possible in regards to health, temperament and working ability while striving to maintain great conformation. We Guarantee we will do everything possible to help you have a great experience with us and your new Doberman, and if anything ever went wrong we would do our very best to remedy the situation. What more could you ask for? So gather the information you can whether it is good or bad, correct or not, come and meet us and the dogs, ask all of your questions, and form an Educated opinion so you can make a responsible decision.
