This page is dedicated to Fun Doberman Stories and quirks. Things Dobermans don't like. Some Dobermans hate water, others attach swimming pools and sprinklers with Gusto, but lets here your favorite stories!
On a serious note, here are some real life things Dobermans don't like:
Being left alone or left out. Dobermans are the only breed of dog that was ever created specifically for personal protection. The relationship they have with their people is everything to them. When they don't get to have that realtionship they are depressed or destructive, or even dangerous.
Dobermans don't like being abused. Physical abuse will not be tolerated. Do not abuse the dog, or other people in the presence of the Doberman. They will not tolerate it.
Dobermans don't like unfairness. If they have done something wrong, they will accept a fair correction, if they don't understand why you see a behavior as wrong, they will only see the correction as unfair and it will damage the relationship that is so important. They can only be corrected for things they understand. For example do not try to teach them to sit by zapping a shock collar until they do sit. If the dog clearly does understand sit, and refuses the command, they will accept a fair correction for that.
Dobermans don't like being left in Heat or cold, especially hot cars. Use your head! They are a short coated breed they do not tolerate temperature extremes. They would prefer San Diego where it is year around 70 degrees. Who wouldn't?
I have not yet met a Doberman that liked Nail trims. Some will Tolerate it, most will howl their heads off and resist, but none have ever brought me the dremel or nail scissors.
I have seen some Dobermans that avoid puddles and rain and baths like the plague, but will fight hoses and sprinklers with Gusto.
Here is a little Story my 8 year old Daughter presented me with that became the inspiration for this page:
